Baby to Other

Look at me with loving eyes,

because then I know I am alive.

With vacant eyes opaque and shallow

I see myself as dead and fallow.

Mocking eyes filled with shame

A worthless child intent to maim

Eyes that seep despair and grief

Will keep me sinking far beneath.

Yet loving eyes show me you care

Protect from harm, you know I’m there.

But eyes that rage, full of disgust

Pierces my soul, as I turn to dust

A shattered psyche, fragmented, lost

Your eyes robbed me, came at a cost.

So look at me with loving eyes

because then I know I am alive

Hold me close, soothe the pain

So I can find myself again

And grow to be whole and ‘tough’

I’ll walk this Earth knowing I’m good enough
